What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage, and help prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system - including the bones, joints, muscles, and spine - and to understand how these systems influence the nervous system and overall health.

Your nervous system plays a key role in how your body moves, adapts, and functions. When joints or muscles are not moving well, it can place strain on surrounding tissues and affect how comfortably and efficiently your body works. Chiropractic care focuses on restoring healthy movement, reducing strain, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and function optimally.

Chiropractic Care for Adults

Chiropractic care is commonly sought for pain relief, but it also supports long-term function, mobility, and quality of life.

Conditions Chiropractic Care May Help With

In adults, chiropractic care may help reduce or relieve symptoms associated with:

  • Neck pain and stiffness

  • Whiplash and post-accident injuries

  • Lower back pain

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain

  • Scoliosis

  • Spinal disc injuries, including disc herniation

  • Sports-related injuries

  • Tendinitis and overuse injuries

  • Pregnancy-related pain (such as lower back, pelvic, or hip discomfort)

  • Arthritis and joint degeneration

  • Sprains and joint pain

Each person is assessed individually, and care is tailored to your specific needs, lifestyle, and goals.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Adults

Patients often report benefits such as:

  • Reduced pain and discomfort

  • Improved joint mobility and flexibility

  • Better posture and movement patterns

  • Reduced muscle tension

  • Improved ability to perform daily activities and exercise

  • Support during pregnancy and post-partum recovery

Chiropractic Care for Babies and Children

Babies and children require a very different, gentle approach to chiropractic care. Paediatric chiropractic care does not involve forceful adjustments. Instead, it uses light pressure and specific techniques appropriate for a developing body.

How well a baby or child functions can influence how their body develops. The goal of care is to support healthy movement, symmetry, and development, helping each child reach their full potential.

Babies and Children Who May Benefit from Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care may be helpful for babies and children who experience:

In babies:

  • Feeding difficulties

  • Colic or excessive crying

  • Reflux

  • Gassiness or difficulty passing stools comfortably

  • Tongue ties (as part of a multidisciplinary approach)

  • A positional preference (e.g. always turning their head to one side)

  • A flat spot on the head (plagiocephaly)

  • Delayed milestones or difficulty performing milestones well (e.g. rolling only one way, crawling asymmetrically, toe walking)

In children:

  • Poor balance or coordination

  • Difficulty with movement or asymmetry

  • Postural concerns (slouched shoulders, head jutting forwards, curving spine)

  • Pain or discomfort during activity or growth

Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Babies and Children

Parents often notice:

  • Improved comfort and ease of movement

  • Better feeding and settling patterns

  • Improved symmetry and posture

  • Support for motor development

  • Improved confidence in movement and play

What to Expect During a Chiropractic Session

Initial Consultation

Your first visit will include:

  • A detailed case history

  • Discussion of symptoms, concerns, and goals

  • Physical and postural assessment

  • Age-appropriate examination

If chiropractic care is appropriate, a personalised care plan will be discussed with you.

Treatment

Treatment may include:

  • Gentle spinal or joint adjustments

  • Soft tissue techniques (see more information on this below)

  • Movement and postural advice

  • Home care or exercise recommendations

For babies and children, techniques are extremely gentle and adapted to their size and stage of development.

Ongoing Care

Some patients benefit from short-term care for a specific issue, while others choose ongoing care to support long-term mobility, comfort, and function. Recommendations are always discussed and tailored to your needs.

Common Questions

Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is widely used and considered safe when performed by a qualified chiropractor. Techniques are adapted to suit each individual, including babies and pregnant women.

Will treatment hurt?
Most treatments are gentle and comfortable. Some people may experience mild soreness afterward, similar to starting a new exercise, which usually resolves quickly.

Do I need a referral?
No referral is required. You are welcome to book directly with me.

If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, please feel free to get in touch. Chiropractic care aims to support your body at every stage of life.

Treatment Methods

During your chiropractic appointment, a recommended combination of the treatment modalities listed below will be provided, specific to your particular case. Your consent is needed before any treatment can be done - which means you are in control throughout the treatment process. A collaborative approach where you and I are equal partners in making informed health decisions replaces the traditional "doctor knows best" model and puts your values and preferences at the centre of your care.

Spinal Adjustments

By applying a controlled, specific force to spinal joints that have restricted movement, the adjustment aims to improve joint mobility and reduce pain.

Extremity Adjustments

Restores motion and function to the joints of the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles and feet.

Joint Mobilisations

A gentle therapeutic technique used to improve the range of motion in a joint without using force.

Dry Needling

Dry needling uses fine, sterile needles to stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points in tight or sore muscles. This process can help relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and improve range of motion.

Massage Therapy

Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, reduces muscle tension and pain, improves flexibility and promotes muscle healing - speeding up recovery.

Percussion Therapy

Applying concentrated bursts of pressure to the muscle will increase blood flow, relax tight muscles, and reduce soreness and stiffness.

Pressotherapy

Applies rhythmic air pressure through a specialized suit to stimulate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, and enhance lymphatic drainage, which helps to flush out toxins, reduce swelling and water retention, alleviate muscle tension, and improve skin tone.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses high-frequency sound waves to

promote healing, reduce pain, and increase blood flow in deep tissues. Useful for musculoskeletal injuries involving soft tissues like muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints.

Posture Correction

Good posture maintains your body's natural alignment, promoting muscle and joint health by reducing strain, improving balance, and preventing pain and injury. It also enhances breathing, reduces fatigue, can improve mood and confidence, and supports a stronger core

Kinesiology Tape

A flexible, stretchy tape used to provide muscle support, reduce pain and swelling, enhance proprioception (body position awareness), and promote lymphatic drainage by slightly lifting the skin. Unlike rigid athletic tape, it allows for a full range of motion and aims to work with the body's natural movement by stimulating nerve endings and creating space for fluids to drain.

Rigid Tape

Rigid tape provides strong, non-elastic support to stabilize and protect joints under high stress, limiting excessive movement to prevent injury and aid in recovery from sprains or strains. It restricts the range of motion, offers maximum joint support, and is used in sports for high-impact activities on areas like ankles, knees, wrists, and shoulders.

Dry Cupping

Dry cupping uses suction to pull the skin, fascia, and muscles upward into special cups placed on the body. The process is believed to promote healing and provide relief from various conditions by increasing blood flow in the treated area. By lifting the tissue, cupping provides a deep, stretching massage effect that can loosen tight muscles and fascia, relieving tension and spasms.
